With a history spanning over 6,000 years, Frankincense essential oil has been considered a sacred oil since the earliest civilizations.
Considered as one of the first fragrant materials used by humans, frankincense begins its history at the same time as the birth of Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations. We cannot speak of incense without evoking fumigation. Many peoples used it in temples to communicate with gods. The Egyptians incorporated incense into their mummification balms.
From the Greeks to the Romans, the use of incense by fumigation persisted. And still today, we find this use in censers during certain religious ceremonies, and in particular burials.
The Bible and the Koran no longer count the times when the term “incense” appears. It is also one of the gifts brought at the birth of Jesus by the three wise men. The Old Testament would even specify that the incense came from the kingdom of Saba, in the south of Arabia.
